New Hero: Ancestor

Master was getting lonely with no other senior citizens to eat butterscotch
with, so the folks over here at Robot did some research into Necromancy and
ended up raising Ancestor from the dead.

An Order mage once upon a time-
you know, before fire- Ancestor was a force to be reckoned with. Nowadays, he
prefers to float around moaning, rattling people’s chains, and reminiscing about
the good old days - but after spending a few years beyond the veil, his powers
have gotten a touch…

wait for it…

…purple. You thought I was
going to say ‘of the grave’, didn’t you. HAH. No. He’s a primarily Arcane damage
Hero.

Here’s the lowdown:

  • Passive: Ghost Link. The Ancestor’s Mana pool increases when people
die around him. (It’s like a vindictive pleasure thing)
  • Primary: A Vampiric main attack that costs Mana to do Arcane damage,
but also grants Ancestor a portion of that damage done as health.
  • Secondary: Area of Effect centered on Ancestor that heals allies and
damages enemies proportional to the size of his Mana pool.
  • A convert-health-to-mana burst that allows Ancestor to keep going
without the need for an afternoon nap.
  • And an Area of Effect terrain ability called ‘Hallowed Ground’.
Enemies that die on Hallowed Ground are worth double the Ghost Link Mana
increase. Also, the ghostly hands of his Bridge buddies reach up and
will randomly Root enemies in the area of effect.

New Map: Highlands

Though you can only play this map in Custom games right now, the good news is
that IT’S A BRAND NEW MAP WOO HOO!!

  • Highlands is a 3-lane map.
  • Trap Cap is 20 per person. Place as your heart desires.
  • Do take a moment to enjoy the scenery: An underground mining path, a
lovely river winding through, and an imposing set of Fortresses make for
a game with a much larger scale.

Newish Map: Creepy Cliffside Clash

So… I mean, it’s technically new. It’s like buying a used car.
It’s new to you. For all you pessimists, though, it’s Cliffside Clash
(Surprise!) with a haunting makeover, in honor of the collective
end-of-October-beginning-of-November holidays.

This will be the
default map for all matchmaking games.

Matchmaking

We’ve tweaked the values for matchmaking to wait a bit longer for human
players and to allow a larger skill range as time goes on. This means that
you’ll get more games with more human players but you’ll also sometimes end
up with larger skill ranges between the most skilled and least skilled
players in a game.

Chat

First you wanted chat. Then you actually wanted to see chats. Then you
wanted chat to not be wiped out any time you switched screens or did
anything in the dash. Well, I hope you’re happy because now you have all of
those things: Chat now persists.

Hero Updates

All Heroes: Some abilities have been renamed, and
descriptive text has been edited. That does not mean they are different.
NOTHING HAS CHANGED BUT THE NAME. So don’t freak out.

Master

  • Master's main shot now costs 6 Mana per shot instead of 7.

Midnight

  • Fixed issues with her snare not stealth-ing correctly.

Prospector

  • Added impact effects to Prospector’s shovel.
  • Tunnel (Name change! “Underground Roads”):
    • ‘Dig’ Mana Cost reduced from 50 to 30.
    • Delay between player uses reduced from 5s to 3s.
    • Killing one tunnel end no longer kills the entire Underground
      Road.
  • Sand Cloud (Name change! “Dust Devil”… I see you freaking out, stop
    it!):
    • Mana cost reduced from 50 to 30.
    • Cooldown reduced from 15s to 12s.

Stinkeye

  • Fixed issue where Stinkeye was trying to fire projectiles from below
the ground when aiming at high incidence angles. May also apply to other
    projectile firing characters.
  • Placing certain traps that collide with a Stinkeye totem will now
destroy the totem. Specifically, all wall traps and decoys.

    New Vanity Skins

    • Scared-Crow War Mage - Crows will have either
nothing, or everything, to fear from War Mage when you wear this skin.
    • Frightfully Delightful Sorceress - Until Sorceress
wears this skin to battle, you cannot truly say “I’m aliiiiivveee!”
    • Lumbering Jack Hogarth - This is a quaint Hogarth
skin with essences of mountain air and pine.
    • Flower Friend Ivy - Take some time to smell the
flowers with this peaceful Ivy skin!
    • Tutu D’Loo Blackpaw - Now, you too can have your
      own pretty-in-pink puppy… creature… Blackpaw thing.

    Bot Updates

    • The Bloodspike and Ivy bots no longer have healing glyphs to
helpfully place right in front of their war camps.
    • Bots should now consider closer targets to be of a higher priority.
    • Bots should no longer increase priority of retreating due to number
of enemy heroes present when they are in their base.
    • Bots will now close already-open doors when there's not much better
      to do.
    • Bots will not back up if they are trying to do something else that
involves moving in a different direction. (Bloodspike will not back up
because he is being shot by a Sorceress he wants to melee.)
    • Bots will not ping-pong around when defending. Hopefully.
    • Bots will not ping-pong around when trying to retreat because gates
      are opening or closing.
    • Bots shouldn’t decide to exit combat and do something else when it’s
important for them to be in combat. (Bloodspike won’t decide to stop
attacking a near-dead enemy hero because he needs to sell a trap.
      Weirdo.)
    • Bots now more concerned with picking up chests, so if you see one,
      snag it before they do.
    • Additional general fixes and improvements. Meaning, there are a ton
of tiny things we’re not listing here, but know that we did it for the
good of all bots and war mages everywhere.

    ^ Top

    Trap Updates

    • Fixes to some locations where boulder chutes had “issues.”
    • There are two new trap slots for Loadouts in the deck editor. MOAR
TRAPPIES! (Attn: We have caught the goblin running around typing at K2’s
desk while she gets coffee. Fear not, citizens.)

    ^ Top

    Gear Updates

    Gnomish Repair Kit

    • Mana cost reduced from 60 to 50.
    • Cooldown reduced from 5s to 2s.
    • Now clears trap disables when it hits a trap.
    • Now penetrates through allies or enemies to target.

    Anti-Trap Vambrace

    • Now penetrates too, instead of incorrect previous settings.

    ^ Top

Miscellaneous And Stuff We Didn’t Make A Separate Category For Because Then Patch Notes Would Be Longer Than This Sentence OMG.

    • Falling damage (what tiny bit there was) has been removed.
    • Screenshot button is now on theF12 key. The screenshot itself is
      stored in this location:
      C:\Users\<username>\Documents\My Games\Orcs
      Must Die\Unchained\SpitfireGame\Screenshots\Win64
      • Where C:\ is where the drive where your Documents are stored,
and where Win64 may be Win32 if you are running 32bit Windows.
    • There are new damage flyoffs for situations in which a character is
resistant or immune to the attack you’re making against them.
    • When you hit the TAB input in game, you now see Economy information
as well as the stuff that was there before.
    • Performance adjustments… to make it better… theoretically…
    • Guardian aggro adjustments
    • Other things besides heroes got name changes for reasons. Repeat:
This does not affect their functionality.
    • There’s music in the Dashboard!
    • The Arcane weaponry debuff from Weavers no longer stacks.
    • The enemy’s Rift is now red (or whatever color red is to those of
the rainbow-ly challenged. Please refer to the Color Blind settings in
the options menu for your opportunities.)

This patch looks good, shame the new map is only in customs but hopefully it will be a random chance between the 2 maps soon. New hero looks like he could be fun too.

Yeah im curious about this one as well. Why not just make it a 50/50 chance of getting the new map when a game launches? Maybe theres more to it on the programming side of the things that just wasn't ready in time for this patch to make that happen I really don't know. I'm guessing well get some good opportunities to play the new map during Nana's streams but aside from that we might have to wait until the next patch to really get a good shot at some 5v5 games. Maybe the 3 lane map is going to be level restricted as well since it's a slightly more advanced map who knows

Hey guys! Popping in to clear up a couple of things regarding Highlands (aka 3-lane).

It won't be available in Unranked right now. It's a pretty large map with lots of moving parts that we're looking to get some public testing and feedback on before releasing into the wild.

That said, if you'd like to play Highlands, please jump into customs with eachother and give it a go. It's a gorgeous map!

still no fix for guardian buff not regenerating you when you get out of combat and still have the guardian buff....?
  • ExhayleExhayle Member, Master Founder, Early Access
Very awesome! I'm always excited for patch days!! The new hero looks really cool. And whatttt????... I'm totally loving the new Ivy skin!!! Awesome job artists!!!! (and obviously awesome job to everyone at Robot!)

I can see why Highlands is in custom games only right now. It isn't (or rather it wasn't) a map you want a brand new person on for their first games. It's an extremely fun map though and I cannot wait to play it's new improved version!

    YES! Halloween event.

Will the Halloween stuff be removed once the event is over?

    EDIT

    Is Ancestor an Order hero?

I find it interesting another arcane hero is coming out too... were up to what? 4 arcane heroes now? The value of arcane wards just went through the roof lol
  • MiniWhiteRabbitMiniWhiteRabbit Member, Master Founder, Early Access
@Waggner - The Halloween event is from Oct. 14th-Nov 4th. The skins will remain in your collection after the event is over as long as you get your hands on them within the previously noted timeframe. :)

I know what hero I'm going to immediately buy when it comes out. Hopefully we can get some things organized for community play on 3-lane; I don't think people will naturally go look for games in custom.

    And for the count @Rinbox:
    7 physical
    1 physical/fire hybrid (Temper)
    1 fire
    2 lightning
    2 frost
    4 arcane (including mr zombie)

And if he's a defensive champion like the trailer shows, that leaves 3 arcane defenders to use arcane ward against. :P

@scnoobii‌ This was changed recently to remove health and mana regeneration during combat (you can still get it outside of combat). The Guardian buff you're seeing now is an armor buff to help with defense. No bugs!

Oh man that new hero looks awesome! The new costumes are great! The halloween stuff is fantastic. I'm excited to get back to playing. Haven't had the time recently to much misfortune.

Ancestor sounds like my kind of hero.

@MiniWhiteRabbit Is that just for the Warmage and Sorceress' skins, or Ivy, Blackpaw, and Hogarth's skins too?
  • kusare.enkusare.en Member, Early Access
Looks an awesome patch! I was skeptical of the last one, but found it alright while playing. I'm sure I'll love these changes in action :D

We’ve tweaked the values for matchmaking to wait a bit longer for human players

I don't think this was needed. The wait times are already RIDICULOUSLY long, especially when there are so few players during non-streaming hours. Seriously, the only time there are enough people to play a 5v5 match is when Nana is streaming.

Also - I unfortunately did not see any mention of fixing the issue with Moebot getting stuck at the warcamp gate. Was this a failed mention, or will this issue persist?

Fixed. Bots will no longer slam their faces into the War Camp door to use it and consequently will not become stuck.
